Every week we look out for the latest winners of the European lottery and hope we are one of the lucky few whose life is changed by the prizes. But what we tend to forget is that the Eurolottery draw changes lives with other prizes too.
One couple had this experience in the European lottery draw on Friday 18th May this year. Lyn Sexton and Ian Pearce from Merthyr Tydfil discovered they had won the £1 million Millionaire Raffle in that days draw.
The couple do not play every week but only when the European lottery jackpot rolls over and becomes a large amount. They bought one ticket for the Tuesday but, after the cashier at their local Tesco store suggested they get one for Friday too, they bought a ticket for the second European lottery draw. Amazingly Lyn did not have enough money for the extra ticket so had to go to the cashpoint to get more.
Lyn and Ian had no idea of their good fortune until they returned from a weekend break on the Sunday. They checked the Eurolottery numbers online and were astonished to find they had won the Millionaire Raffle. They then took the ticket back to Tesco to confirm their win and then put the ticket in a safe place until they could contact Camelot, the lottery’s UK administrators.
Both Lyn, a physiotherapist technician at a Cardiff hospital, and Ian, a civil servant with the Welsh Assembly, have decided to go back to work and take their time over what to do with the money.
The couple are determined to stay in Merthyr as they love living in the community but want to extend their house and include a swimming pool. A world tour is on the cards, as is a holiday to the Caribbean with both their extended families. Ian had already bought a new car before the win and is happy with that but Lyn has his sights on a new Range Rover Evoque.
It seems the European lottery changes several lives every week
