A single mother from Stanford-le-Hope in Essex had a shock in April when she found she was a UK lottery winner.
Julie Styles, a 46-year-old mother of two, had been having sleepless night about money problems and had been considering giving up her weekly lottery ticket. With this thought in her mind, she dropped off her daughter to work and popped into her local Co-op to check the numbers from the week before.
She was convinced she was not a UK lottery winner and her luck was bad as usual when the shop assistant told her she should contact Camelot (the UK lottery draw administrators) as she had won £5000.
Julie says: “When I thought I had won £5000 I was so shocked and delighted, I simply took the ticket and walked out without paying for my shopping!”
Fortunately her sister also works in the shop and cleared up any confusion – she also rang Julie to tell her she had actually won part of the jackpot and would receive £1,645,545.
Julie works at the local Debenhams store and is making plans for the future. Like many a UK lottery winner, she is thinking of her family first. Family members will see their mortgages paid off and Julie and her son will get new mobile phones.
This new winner might treat herself to a new Audi TT but Julie does not foresee any great extravagance. The family already have a trip to Butlins booked and there might be a trip abroad on the cards but Julie just wants to enjoy the peace of mind the money will bring. “I’ll just enjoy the security of money in the bank. I’m not going to move or stop working as I really enjoy it but I will cut my hours back.”
It is lovely to hear about a UK lottery winner who is going to keep her feet firmly on the ground.
