European Lottery: Life Changes For a Young Couple

The Eurolottery draw has changed the lives of a delightful young couple from Stapleford in Nottingham.

Cassey Carrington, a supervisor at Iceland, and Matt Topham, a painter and decorator in his father’s business, are both aged 22 and won the European lottery jackpot by playing online.

Cassey felt her luck was in when her store won a sales incentive of £10,000, which the staff divided among themselves. As a result she decided to see if her luck would extend to the lottery.

She bought a ticket for the European lottery draw on Friday 3 February 2012 but won nothing. There was still a balance on her online account so she used that to buy tickets for both the British National Lottery the next Saturday and the Eurolottery draw on Tuesday.

The Tuesday Eurolottery ticket scooped her a stunning £45,160,170.50.

Cassey has only played the lottery a few times and has already won two prizes of £10. The European lottery jackpot win has come at the right time for the couple however.

That Tuesday both Matt’s computer and their washing machine broke down. They were already budgeting for their forthcoming wedding and were frustrated by their bad luck. Cassey then decided to check the lottery numbers.

She ran though the European lottery numbers and could not believe what she saw so she rang a friend so he could check too. They all got very excited but refused to celebrate before they spoke to the lottery administrators the next day. Like so many lottery winners, Cassey and Matt got little sleep that night.

The couple have great plans for the money. The first priority is to treat family and friends. Cassey’s father has always wanted a Porsche and so the couple plans to treat him to one as well as pay off her parents’ mortgage. Having struggled with a mortgage themselves, Matt and Cassey will help friends get a house and Matt’s father will be able to retire.

The couple will treat themselves too. Cassey says, “There are just so many hobbies that I never thought I would ever be able to do so to go from having nothing as a hobby to being able to do anything is just crazy.” They plan to design and build their own dream house and have watched Top Gear to identify the cars they want; Cassey has put an Aston Martin at the top of her list. Travel is a burn for the two as well and several destinations have been discussed, including visiting Monaco for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

And their wedding day will be a lot more lavish, thanks to the European lottery.

The newest winners of the European lottery jackpot have been named. Gareth and Catherine Bull from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire became the latest winners of a massive Eurolottery jackpot on last Friday, the 20th January 2012.

Gareth is a self-employed builder and could not work because the rain prevented him completing a job. Instead he and his colleagues drove to a nearby shop and he bought a European lottery ticket using the Lucky Dip system, rather than selecting his own numbers.

As he usually does on a Friday, Gareth then checked his ticket against those listed on television. Catherine takes up the story: “He came into the bedroom as white as a sheet, the ticket was shaking in his hand and I knew soothing wasn’t right. When he tried to explain that he thought we had won, I thought he was pulling my leg.”

She was sure he was pulling her leg so they both checked the numbers together on the television and then, still not believing it, they looked online. As they looked the prize money seemed to increase. As Catherine puts it, “My head was in bits.”

Even thought the couple eventually realised the extent of their European lottery win and they had rung the lottery’s administrators, Camelot, to confirm their good luck, family life continued as normal that day: the children went to football, had a sleepover and friends came around in the evening.

What will they do with the Eurolottery money? As it happens the couple have already built their dream home but Gareth is looking to get a box at Old Trafford, home of his favourite team, Manchester United, a new Range Rover Sport, a trip to Disneyland, Florida for the whole family and perhaps a holiday villa. They have already bought an iPad with the money but they are not planning to change their way of life just yet.

Catherine, who works in health insurance, is relaxed about their good luck; “I’ve never been much of a shopper,” she says, ” although I would like a new upstairs landing carpet and I’d like to get my hair done more than twice a year!”

Clearly this is one family who considers the Eurolottery as one of the best lotteries to play!

Global Lotteries: A Lucky Mega Millions Winner

Posted by admin on Jan-16-2012

Do you feel Friday 13th is lucky or unlucky? One player of one of the largest global lotteries, the American Mega Millions certainly found last Friday to be lucky.

Daniel Bruckner from California was in Long Island visiting family and friends in the area. He went food shopping, saw the size of the Mega Millions jackpot and thought he would have a go.

The 35-year-old financial analyst had just $26 in his wallet after the shopping trip so he decided to use it all to buy lottery tickets. He went back to his wife and his father and forgot all about it.

Later he was woken by his wife after his father discovered the winning lottery ticket for this, the most local of the global lotteries, had been bought at the local store. To keep them both happy, Daniel went downstairs and checked the numbers. One by one they agreed with the ticket he held.

“It just didn’t seem real and you just don’t believe it all,” he admitted.

He checked and double-checked the numbers but still the results showed he held the winning lottery number and so had won $208,000,000.

The Bruckners had been comfortable financially but Christine, Daniel’s wife had recently lost her job as a mortgage advisor. The couple did not know exactly what they would do with the money beyond paying school and other bills.

There is no doubt that they will have a more comfortable future however.

We all dream of selecting the best lotteries to play and winning the big jackpot but what is life really like if you do win?

Here are some features to bear in mind for that day when you find the winning lottery number and claim your life-changing prize. The information has been compiled specifically with the British National lottery or European lottery in mind but the information holds generally true for most of the global lotteries.

1. Double-check the numbers first.
Check online with the official website of the lottery administrator (in the UK the site you want is www.national-lottery.co.uk). Also ensure the ticket you hold has the correct date on it: so many players think they have won when their ticket is for the previous week’s draw!

If you play lotteries online or are a member of a syndicate, you should check the appropriate website or the syndicate leader to make sure. Many websites will contact you to confirm the win in any case – but only if you have already paid to play.

2. Keep that ticket secure.
How would you feel if you had won a major prize but could not find the ticket? A lottery administrator will want to see it to confirm the win. You don’t necessarily need to lock it in the bank but you might consider finding a safe place such as a hidden strong box or even keep it close to you, perhaps in your purse or wallet. Some winners have kept their ticket in unusual places – such as in the freezer or in a Bible. The place is not important as long as it is safe and a place you can remember where it is!

Call the lottery administrator if a large win or, in the case of a smaller prize, return to the shop where you bought your ticket. Again, if you play lotteries online, you will have contacted the website or a syndicate leader, if appropriate.

Most lottery companies have an experienced team ready to help you from the first call, so you don’t need to feel apprehensive. Usually you will be asked to visit a lottery office to prove your identity and present the winning ticket. While you are there you will also meet experts who will advise you as to the next steps.

3. Go public or stay anonymous?
This is a key decision to make, and one the lottery advisers will be happy to discuss with you.

Colin and Chris Weir broke records with their £161 million win in the European lottery in July and held a press conference to announce their good fortune. However, a few weeks later they had to go into hiding to avoid the begging letters and telephone calls. Other winners have successfully stayed anonymous and you might consider doing so too.

In other countries some lottery winners have held press conferences but have worn masks and have kept their names secret.

4. Open a new bank account.
One of the advisors you will meet at the lottery office will be a representative from a bank. It is worth getting professional advice, as handling a large amount of money is a delicate task, if you are to make the most of the opportunity. Personally, I would consider hiring a reputable independent financial advisor: no doubt the lottery company would help you with that too.

Good professional advisors are a must, so ensure you choose well.

Bear in mind these days the money is transferred electronically to a bank account of your choice – the large cheque is purely for show.

5. Would you quit your job?
Of course, this depends on the amount of money you win and your attitude to your job.

Nicky Cusack won £2.49 million in the UK lottery draw in 2009 and yet has returned to her job stacking shelves at her local Asda store. She told reporters she missed her friends at work and that she really did enjoy her job.

A man only known as ‘Alexandre’ won the French loto draw, left his job and then promptly bought the transport company he had worked for to save it from bankruptcy.

6. Relax and take a holiday.
All lottery winners are advised to take a holiday after their win. The reason? It is often difficult to come to terms with your new-found wealth and it is invaluable to take your time making decisions rationally and calmly. A holiday will help you adjust.

Any winner who rushes headlong into decisions is more likely to make bad ones and not get the full benefit from their good fortune.

Bear in mind too that you may well get a ton of begging calls and letters so being away from home would be useful. Perhaps redirect your post and calls to someone employed to deal with them. Again, your lottery administrators will help with that: they usually have staff who will deal with the calls.

7. Have fun.
The last tip is simply to enjoy yourself. Okay, you can use the money responsibly and it would be a mistake to be silly with the money but why not treat yourself a little?

Again, it depends on how much money you win, but, if you can afford it, why not get that car you wanted or the new house? Then you can settle down and think how you can use your winnings in the best way.

With the help now available, it is easy to survive winning large lottery prizes. Recent winners have made good use of their new fortune and have achieved great things. Gone are the days when those who draw the winning lottery number have their lives ruined.

What would you do if you won? It’s great fun to imagine so have a bit of fun and dream a little. Then play lotteries online with a site such as theLotter.com and see if you can bring those dreams into reality.

I hope you can put these tips into practical use very soon.

Eurolottery: Pub Syndicate Wins On First Attempt

Posted by admin on Dec-5-2011

A group of staff and regulars in the Beech Tree pub in Heald Green, Cheshire have reasons to raise a celebratory glass after winning £1 million in the European lottery.

The syndicate of 25 members scooped the Millionaire Raffle prize – together with another £2.70 prize – at their first attempt at playing the Eurolottery draw on Friday.

The organiser of the syndicate, David Edwards, went and checked the winning lottery numbers in his local shop. He couldn’t believe what he saw so he checked again on the television. “I went into the pub and told everyone and they thought I was winding them up. It has been a bit of a party since.”

Each member, including landlord Steve Hough, will receive £40,000 from the European lottery organisers. Although none of them will be able to retire, the win will mean some useful changes in their lives.

Steve Hough has already booked a holiday to see family in Australia and will give his young son a great Christmas.

Dave Edwards (who has won smaller lottery prizes in the past) will use the money to get his Ford Fiesta on the road and update his house.

Samantha Dickenson, a barmaid in the pub, has lived in rented accommodation for ten years and got married in September. The Eurolottery win means she and her husband can now buy their own home for the first time.

The Eurolottery syndicate is called ‘the Mighty Reds’ after Manchester United football team, although there have been some grumblings from some members who support rivals Manchester City. Still, the European lottery win might make them feel a little happier!

European Lottery: Scottish Winners Get Involved

Posted by admin on Nov-23-2011

What would you do if you won a huge amount of money in the Eurolottery draw?

You may recall that the last record winners of the European lottery, Chris and Colin Weir of Largs, Ayrshire, had conservative plans for the money they had won in July this year (see the story here). You may also recall that they then had to go into hiding as their decision to go public with their Eurolottery fortune lead to a torrent of begging letters.

The couple have now started to discover exactly what to do with their Eurolottery money. One decision has already led to controversy. The Weirs have always been supporters of independence for Scotland and have given £1 million to the Scottish National Party.

This donation should not be a major surprise as Mr. Weir did stand as an unsuccessful SNP candidate in the 1987 election.

The money given will help to fund the campaign for a referendum on the subject, despite a recent opinion poll that suggested the support for independence was on the wane.

But the couple made use of their European lottery win in other ways too.

Instead of luxury cars, they have bought themselves a couple of Suzukis, although they have bought cars for friends too. They have now move into a luxury house and have helped a long list of local good causes.

After all, the money they won from the Eurolottery draw was theirs to spend and they seem to be using it according to their consciences.

European Lottery Winners To Buy Vintage Car

Posted by admin on Oct-13-2011

The latest winners of the Eurolottery draw jackpot went public yesterday and revealed they had thought carefully about what to do about the money.

Dave and Angela Dawes from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire won £101,203,600.70 in the European lottery a week ago – the third biggest win in the United Kingdom – on only their third attempt.

Dave, a shift supervisor for Premier Foods, and Angela, a volunteer for the British Heart Foundation, were watching television when the results of the Eurolottery draw came on screen. “We got our tickets out and watched in shock as, one by one, the numbers came up on the line I’d chosen. We couldn’t believe it!”

By then it was too late to ring Camelot (the European Lottery organizers in the UK) so the couple had to wait until the morning – needless to say neither got any sleep that night!

The couple have been together for four years and were intending to get married next year so their wedding plans have suddenly become more ambitious. The Eurolottery win has given them other ideas too; properties in London and Portugal as well as a trip to Las Vegas and Switzerland are on the list. Dave loves watching Chelsea play football so would like to get a season ticket.

But the couple’s plans are not all selfish. They want to help family and friends become financially secure and Angela’s father has always wanted a 1926 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost so they plan to buy one for him – even though he cannot drive!

Previously Dave and Angela have not been able to afford to get married and live in a small one bedroomed flat. It looks like the European lottery may have changed that.

Eurolottery: Skydiver Jumps With Ticket

Posted by admin on Oct-10-2011

When George Traykov found he had won £1 million in the European lottery he found an unusual way to celebrate.

Mr Traykov, aged 43 years and originally from Bulgaria, is a keen skydiver and a former member of the Bulgarian national skydiving team and decided to celebrate his good fortune by jumping from a plane with the winning ticket.

The father of one from Ilford, Essex only checked his European lottery ticket after two further draws had been made. He discovered his win and still coolly went to an early shift at The Princess Grace private hospital in London before contacting Camelot, the lottery’s organisers.

His only use for the money so far is to pay for his twelve year old daughter to also have sky diving training. Until now she has had to make do with training at a wind tunnel in Milton Keynes.

Global Lotteries: New York Mega Millions Winners

Posted by admin on Oct-6-2011

Winners’ stories come in from all round the world from each of the global lotteries available to play online.

One such story concerns one of the best lotteries to play: the Mega Millions draw in the USA. Seven coworkers from the New York division of Housing and Community Renewal won the $319 million jackpot in this draw earlier this year.

Mike Barth bought the winning ticket from a store in Albany, New York on 23 March. Ironically he was about to buy a ticket when he leaned down to collect a Snickers bar too. Another customer cut in front of him to take a ticket so Mike had to settle for the next one – the winning ticket!

The group doesn’t always play the lottery and only start when the jackpot creeps above $100 million. Another group member Gabrielle Mahar was first to realize they had won and she rang her supervisor, also a member of the lottery group, Kristin Baldwin. The other members thought they were the victims of a practical joke at first when they heard from fellow workers on a Saturday morning but the reality soon sank in.

Each member received $28,971,029 before tax and each has different uses for their winnings. Some are less ambitious than others: Mahar has her eyes on a dishwasher, another wants to go everywhere first class and a third wants to go to every Disney theme park available. For Mike Barth he simply wants a set of new tyres for his car and a college education for his son “not based on where he can go, but where he wants to go.”

Global lotteries are changing lives all the time!

We often report on new winners of the UK lottery draw and other global lotteries on this site but rarely do we pick up the story of a winner a few years later. Let’s change that.

Sarah Cockings is an attractive, bubbly blond girl from Tyne and Wear who was at university in 2005, aged 21, when she won her prize. Sarah only played occasionally but played one Saturday draw with her own numbers.

She went home that evening and checked her numbers on the Internet. At first she was pleased she had won £10 but then saw all her other numbers matching too. Eventually it dawned on her that she had won £3,045,705 on the British National Lottery.

What has she done with the money since?

Sarah, like so many winners, understood where her priorities lay and she knew her family was important. Her parents were very supportive and refused to treat her differently: nonetheless Sarah bought them a new house. Another early purchase was breast implants for both her sisters.

She has treated herself to a house and a good wardrobe. Not having a car, Sarah bought herself a top-of-the-range Mini and eventually graduated on to the black Range Rover Sport she now owns. She is happy to be pampered every now and again and visits the local beauty salon. One of her favourite changes however was the arrival of two little dogs as her companions.

As for the future? Sarah is thinking about returning to University but rather than the social degree she was originally following, she would like to get the qualifications to enable her to get into midwifery.

Winning the UK lottery draw can be a positive experience if you are as sensible as Sarah.
