Do you feel Friday 13th is lucky or unlucky? One player of one of the largest global lotteries, the American Mega Millions certainly found last Friday to be lucky.

Daniel Bruckner from California was in Long Island visiting family and friends in the area. He went food shopping, saw the size of the Mega Millions jackpot and thought he would have a go.

The 35-year-old financial analyst had just $26 in his wallet after the shopping trip so he decided to use it all to buy lottery tickets. He went back to his wife and his father and forgot all about it.

Later he was woken by his wife after his father discovered the winning lottery ticket for this, the most local of the global lotteries, had been bought at the local store. To keep them both happy, Daniel went downstairs and checked the numbers. One by one they agreed with the ticket he held.

He checked and double-checked the numbers but still the results showed he held the winning lottery number and so had won $208,000,000.

The Bruckners had been comfortable financially but Christine, Daniel’s wife had recently lost her job as a mortgage advisor. The couple did not know exactly what they would do with the money beyond paying school and other bills.

There is no doubt that they will have a more comfortable future however.
