European Lottery Winners To Buy Vintage Car

Posted by admin on Oct-13-2011

The latest winners of the Eurolottery draw jackpot went public yesterday and revealed they had thought carefully about what to do about the money.

Dave and Angela Dawes from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire won £101,203,600.70 in the European lottery a week ago – the third biggest win in the United Kingdom – on only their third attempt.

Dave, a shift supervisor for Premier Foods, and Angela, a volunteer for the British Heart Foundation, were watching television when the results of the Eurolottery draw came on screen. “We got our tickets out and watched in shock as, one by one, the numbers came up on the line I’d chosen. We couldn’t believe it!”

By then it was too late to ring Camelot (the European Lottery organizers in the UK) so the couple had to wait until the morning – needless to say neither got any sleep that night!

The couple have been together for four years and were intending to get married next year so their wedding plans have suddenly become more ambitious. The Eurolottery win has given them other ideas too; properties in London and Portugal as well as a trip to Las Vegas and Switzerland are on the list. Dave loves watching Chelsea play football so would like to get a season ticket.

But the couple’s plans are not all selfish. They want to help family and friends become financially secure and Angela’s father has always wanted a 1926 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost so they plan to buy one for him – even though he cannot drive!

Previously Dave and Angela have not been able to afford to get married and live in a small one bedroomed flat. It looks like the European lottery may have changed that.

Eurolottery: Skydiver Jumps With Ticket

Posted by admin on Oct-10-2011

When George Traykov found he had won £1 million in the European lottery he found an unusual way to celebrate.

Mr Traykov, aged 43 years and originally from Bulgaria, is a keen skydiver and a former member of the Bulgarian national skydiving team and decided to celebrate his good fortune by jumping from a plane with the winning ticket.

The father of one from Ilford, Essex only checked his European lottery ticket after two further draws had been made. He discovered his win and still coolly went to an early shift at The Princess Grace private hospital in London before contacting Camelot, the lottery’s organisers.

His only use for the money so far is to pay for his twelve year old daughter to also have sky diving training. Until now she has had to make do with training at a wind tunnel in Milton Keynes.

Global Lotteries: New York Mega Millions Winners

Posted by admin on Oct-6-2011

Winners’ stories come in from all round the world from each of the global lotteries available to play online.

One such story concerns one of the best lotteries to play: the Mega Millions draw in the USA. Seven coworkers from the New York division of Housing and Community Renewal won the $319 million jackpot in this draw earlier this year.

Mike Barth bought the winning ticket from a store in Albany, New York on 23 March. Ironically he was about to buy a ticket when he leaned down to collect a Snickers bar too. Another customer cut in front of him to take a ticket so Mike had to settle for the next one – the winning ticket!

The group doesn’t always play the lottery and only start when the jackpot creeps above $100 million. Another group member Gabrielle Mahar was first to realize they had won and she rang her supervisor, also a member of the lottery group, Kristin Baldwin. The other members thought they were the victims of a practical joke at first when they heard from fellow workers on a Saturday morning but the reality soon sank in.

Each member received $28,971,029 before tax and each has different uses for their winnings. Some are less ambitious than others: Mahar has her eyes on a dishwasher, another wants to go everywhere first class and a third wants to go to every Disney theme park available. For Mike Barth he simply wants a set of new tyres for his car and a college education for his son “not based on where he can go, but where he wants to go.”

Global lotteries are changing lives all the time!

We often report on new winners of the UK lottery draw and other global lotteries on this site but rarely do we pick up the story of a winner a few years later. Let’s change that.

Sarah Cockings is an attractive, bubbly blond girl from Tyne and Wear who was at university in 2005, aged 21, when she won her prize. Sarah only played occasionally but played one Saturday draw with her own numbers.

She went home that evening and checked her numbers on the Internet. At first she was pleased she had won £10 but then saw all her other numbers matching too. Eventually it dawned on her that she had won £3,045,705 on the British National Lottery.

What has she done with the money since?

Sarah, like so many winners, understood where her priorities lay and she knew her family was important. Her parents were very supportive and refused to treat her differently: nonetheless Sarah bought them a new house. Another early purchase was breast implants for both her sisters.

She has treated herself to a house and a good wardrobe. Not having a car, Sarah bought herself a top-of-the-range Mini and eventually graduated on to the black Range Rover Sport she now owns. She is happy to be pampered every now and again and visits the local beauty salon. One of her favourite changes however was the arrival of two little dogs as her companions.

As for the future? Sarah is thinking about returning to University but rather than the social degree she was originally following, she would like to get the qualifications to enable her to get into midwifery.

Winning the UK lottery draw can be a positive experience if you are as sensible as Sarah.

Eurolottery: Surprised Millionaire Raffle Winner

Posted by admin on Sep-15-2011

Champagne Glass On Table In Restaurant

Not surprisingly we usually hear stories about winners of the European lottery jackpot but forget that other prizes given out are also changing lives.

Adam Derbi from Cardiff is a self-employed cab driver and lives with his wife, Natalia. He plays the European lottery regularly and received an email after the Eurolottery draw on Tuesday 5 July this year telling him he had won £5.10 by matching two numbers.

He logged on to his computer to take part in the draw on the following Friday but couldn’t find his prize listed. He started to search the screen. “When I scrolled down I saw that I’d won the £1 million as well. I started shaking and it all seemed surreal. Natalia was right there but she didn’t believe me at first; it’s only now really sinking in.”

Adam had won the Millionaire Raffle in the European lottery, a prize given in addition to any prize already won in the draw.

Although it wasn’t the top prize the Eurolottery draw offers, the money will make a big difference to the couple’s lives. They have five children and the first thing they did was to have a celebratory meal for all close family members. Like so many winners, Adam is sensible about the win: “It’s a case of allowing the money to give us some security and our children a decent start in life.”

The family is looking to move out of their rented home to buy a good house and a seven-seater car. Adam is also looking to indulge his favourite hobby – playing golf – a bit more too.

We wish the family all good luck for the future. It just shows you don’t have to win the jackpot to benefit from the European lottery.

Best Lotteries to Play: French Lottery Winners

Posted by admin on Aug-23-2011

While there have been many big lottery wins throughout the world, France has had some of the biggest and most interesting lottery winners of all-time. This is certainly no surprise either because France offers some of the best lotteries to play, and jackpots often reach €10 million in the French Loto. Now that we’ve established this, let’s take a closer look at some of the biggest/most interesting French lottery winners.

A Man of Integrity

A Frenchman named Jean-Pierre was a beneficiary of one of the aforementioned €10 million jackpots, and he became a big story after winning. The tale began when Jean-Pierre, his wife, and another couple had been playing the lottery together for over three years. One night, they all went out on Christmas to buy some tickets together; much like in the past, they failed to win anything significant after buying €10 worth of tickets.

The following week, Jean-Pierre decided to play the lottery by himself with the exact same numbers in early 2011. And this turned out to be an excellent decision after Jean-Pierre ended up winning a €10 million jackpot. Now at this point, most people might be willing to share the jackpot with their wife, but not the couple who they hung out with. However, the man in his mid-60’s saw no reason to hold out on long-time friends despite the fact that he’d won the jackpot all by himself.

Jean-Pierre went about telling the other couple in a unique way by asking for their share of the €10 in weekly tickets. Once they paid him, he split the jackpot four ways, which amounted to €2.5 million per person. He spoke with France-Info.com about his decision by saying, “It’s normal that we should share the money as we’ve known each other for 22 year.” He also added, “I went to see them and asked them to give me the usual €5 they contributed every week, and when they did, I told them we had all won €10 million.”

Early Retirement

An anonymous woman who had been spending €24 per week on the French Loto for years finally saw her faith pay off in the form of a €4 million jackpot on January 13th, 2010. Following the win, she told reporters, “I’ve dreamed of this day and I’ve kept playing.” Immediately after hitting the €4 million jackpot, she quit her job as part of an early retirement.

Regarding the winning ticket, the woman claimed to be pretty calm until it was time to cash in the ticket. However, her husband had quite a different story about the situation as he said, “We had a very bad night, we just stayed awake.” Fortunately, the bad night didn’t detract from the overall feeling in the win, and the couple said the money will help them, “travel to please our children and their families.”

Saving the Company

Most people would love to splurge on fancy cars and lavish vacations after winning a €10 million lottery jackpot. However, a man named “Alexandre” chose to save his former company with his newly won €10 million French Loto jackpot. Alexandre used to be a lorry (truck) driver, and the company he worked for was facing a grim future.

But after winning the jackpot, Alexandre chose to buy out the struggling company and become its new CEO. He spoke about the decision by telling reporters, “I had the means to invest and save jobs, and it’s a world I know well. In fact it has been my life. That’s not something you can give up from one day to another.” But he’s cautious about the future after stating, “If I see we’re losing too much money, then I’ll quit.”

As you can see from the big jackpots that people have won through the French Loto, this is no doubt one of the best lotteries to play.

Eurolottery: Winning Couple In Hiding

Posted by admin on Jul-20-2011

Whenever I hear of somebody winning a huge amount of money on the European lottery I always hope they manage to stay anonymous so they have a chance to do something constructive with their good fortune. For this reason I was a little sad to see the recent winners of the Eurolottery draw, Colin and Chris Weir, going public about their £161 million win.

It now seems I was right. News reports indicate that the couple from Ayrshire have gone into hiding, possibly abroad.

Inevitably they have been inundated with begging letters for money. The couple had decided to go public with their win so they would not have to lie to friends and family as that seemed the simplest thing to do.

However a spokesman from Camelot stated the couple did not want any more publicity and that the lottery organizers were not at liberty to comment on their whereabouts.

Here is the lesson: if you are lucky enough to win either the European lottery or the British National Lottery make sure you tick the box that asks if you want to stay anonymous. A couple won £113 million in the Eurolottery in October 2010 and nobody knows who or where they are. Winners in other countries even opt to wear masks at the press conference but it would seem sensible to not even hold a press conference but to walk quietly away and resume your life.

It’s not the money that destroys your life, it’s the fame.

Eurolottery: Ayrshire Couple Win Record Jackpot

Posted by admin on Jul-15-2011

Earlier today the couple that had won the recent £161 million jackpot in the European lottery held a press conference in their hometown of Largs, Ayrshire.

Chris and Colin Weir were very sensible about their good fortune but didn’t sleep for two nights once they realized they had won. They checked the numbers from the television in the evening and had to wait until the next morning to register their win. Together they watched the sun rise before Chris dialed Camelot, the lottery administrators.

Both partners have had serious health problems in recent years that had prevented them working so the good luck is welcome. However they are not letting it all to get to their heads; Chris told reporters “We are not flashy people” and husband Colin observed, “With great wealth come great responsibility.”

Ideas for their future include travelling. Chris and Colin have always wanted to see the Great Wall of China and Ayers Rock and explore the art galleries of the world. The only other commitment they made was to buy homes for their two grown-up children.

We send very best wishes to the lucky couple for the future.

Wearing masks to shield ones identity is becoming popular among winners of global lotteries.

Recently an Israeli couple turned up to collect their winnings in masks (see this article) and now a Chinese winner has done the same.

The latest winner of the China Sports Lottery arrived an hour and a half late for the news conference and wore a Monkey King mask and baseball cap to answer questions from the press.

The man lives in the southwest city of Chongqing and received his cheque for 177 million yuan (about US$27.3 million) and announced his intention to donate 5 million yuan to charity.

The win may be the biggest in the province but not in China. A teacher in the country’s Henan province won a previous jackpot of 258 million yuan and he or she (this time the winner didn’t even turn up to the press conference) donated 10.5 yuan to charity.

Wearing masks for lottery presentations seems to be a tradition in China. A winner from Guizhou turned up dressed as Spider Man and a group of four winners, also from Guizhou, wore hats and masks but kept their heads down. Observers christened them ‘the most depressed people to win the lottery.’

It seems global lotteries are changing lives all over the world – even if we don’t know what they look like!

A lady who won £250,000 in the British National Lottery just avoided being sent to prison recently. Instead she received a four-month sentence suspended for two years when she appeared in St Albans Crown Court in Hertfordshire. She also has to abide to a curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

What had she done wrong?

Pensioner Christine Greenhill won the money from the British National Lottery in November 2005 but she continued to claim social security benefits without notifying the authorities that she had savings well in excess of the limit set by the Department of Work And Pensions. She had also stated she was living on her own when she had a partner sharing her home.

She was accused of obtaining £14 000 to which she was not entitled. It seems the money was spent on meals out and holidays.

Make sure you don’t forget to tell the right people when you win money in the UK lottery draw!

Read the whole story on the Hertfordshire Mercury website.
